El objetivo final es determinar nuevas dianas moleculares y contribuir a desarrollar estrategias terap\u00e9uticas y de prevenci\u00f3n. Su incidencia aumenta r\u00e1pidamente en todo el mundo convirti\u00e9ndose en un problema prioritario para la salud p\u00fablica. La DMG es mucho m\u00e1s que la aparici\u00f3n de hiperglucemia en la madre de forma transitoria durante el embarazo. Predispone a la madre y a la descendencia, tanto masculina como femenina, a un mayor riesgo de desarrollar diabetes de tipo 2 y obesidad en el futuro. Por ello, la comprensi\u00f3n de los mecanismos subyacentes a la DMG contribuir\u00e1 a contener la actual epidemia de diabesidad. Utilizando modelos de experimentaci\u00f3n in vivo e in vitro, buscamos comprender las bases moleculares de la DMG, con especial \u00e9nfasis en la obesidad como factor de riesgo, e identificar las v\u00edas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n alteradas que conducen al desarrollo de esta enfermedad. Los DEs, presentes de manera ubicua, pueden encontrarse en una gran variedad de productos de consumo, como materiales de envasado de alimentos, productos de cuidado personal y del hogar, aditivos pl\u00e1sticos y retardantes de llama. Entre ellos, se ha demostrado que un subconjunto que recibe el nombre de disruptores qu\u00edmicos metab\u00f3licos, puede aumentar la incidencia de trastornos metab\u00f3licos, como la diabetes, la obesidad y el s\u00edndrome metab\u00f3lico, entre otros. Estudiamos c\u00f3mo la exposici\u00f3n a estos compuestos puede afectar a los procesos moleculares y celulares del p\u00e1ncreas endocrino. Adem\u00e1s, trabajamos para desarrollar m\u00e9todos nuevos y eficaces para identificar disruptores con efectos diabetog\u00e9nicos, obesog\u00e9nicos o diabesog\u00e9nicos. Its incidence is rapidly increasing all over the world and has become a public health priority issue. GDM is much more than a transient maternal hyperglycaemia occurring during pregnancy. It predisposes the mother and the offspring, both male and female, for increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and obesity in the future. Thus, understanding the mechanisms underlying GDM will contribute to contain existing worldwide diabesity epidemic. Using in vivo and in vitro models we aim to understand the molecular basis of GDM, with particular emphasis on obesity as risk factor, and identify altered signaling pathways leading to the development of this disease. EDCs are ubiquitous and can be found in a variety of consumer products such as food packaging materials, personal care and household products, plastic additives, and flame retardants. Among them, a subset called metabolism-disrupting chemicals (MDCs) has been largely acknowledged to increase the incidence of metabolic disorders including diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome, among others. We study how exposure to MDCs may affect the molecular and cellular processes of the endocrine pancreas. In addition, we work to develop new and effective methods to identify EDCs with diabetogenic, obesogenic or diabesogenic effects.
