Paloma Alonso-Magdalena va estudiar Biologia a la Universitat d’Oviedo. Va obtenir el seu doctorat a la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez i va realitzar una estada postdoctoral al Departament de Nutrici\u00f3 del Karolinska Institutet d’Estocolm (Su\u00e8cia) on va estudiar la fisiologia del receptor d’estr\u00f2gens ER\u03b2. Tamb\u00e9 va ser investigadora visitant al Center for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling de Houston (EUA). Actualment \u00e9s professora de Nutrici\u00f3 i Bromatologia de la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez d’Elx i investigadora principal de l’IDiBE. La seva investigaci\u00f3 se centra a entendre el paper que tenen els disruptius endocrins (EDC) en l’etiologia de la diabetis, l’obesitat i els trastorns metab\u00f2lics relacionats. El seu treball ha estat decisiu per vincular l’exposici\u00f3 a certs disruptors endocrins generalitzats com el bisfenol-A amb l’etiopatologia de la diabetis tipus 2. A m\u00e9s, est\u00e0 interessada en la fisiologia i les adaptacions metab\u00f2liques de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa i beta pancre\u00e0tiques durant l’embar\u00e0s. Est\u00e0 especialment centrada en la comprensi\u00f3 de les bases moleculars de la diabetis mellitus gestacional i la identificaci\u00f3 de vies de senyalitzaci\u00f3 alterades que condueixen al desenvolupament d’aquesta malaltia. Va ser guardonada amb el premi de la Societat Espanyola de Diabetis a la millor investigadora jove (2018)<\/p>\n

Ivan Quesada \u00e9s catedr\u00e0tic de Nutrici\u00f3 de la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez d’Elx. Va obtenir el seu doctorat a la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez (2000) i va realitzar una estada postdoctoral a la Universitat de Washington a Seattle (2001-2003). El Dr. Quesada tamb\u00e9 va ser convidat com a Visiting Assistant Professor per ensenyar a la Universitat de Washington (2004). Els seus estudis s’han centrat en entendre les alteracions, adaptacions i\/o fallades de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa i beta pancre\u00e0tiques en condicions fisiol\u00f2giques com l’embar\u00e0s i l’envelliment, aix\u00ed com en condicions patol\u00f2giques com l’obesitat i la diabetis. La seva investigaci\u00f3 en els darrers anys ha contribu\u00eft principalment a una millor comprensi\u00f3 de la biologia de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa pancre\u00e0tiques en salut i malaltia, i la seva contribuci\u00f3 a la diabetis. Va ser guardonat per la Societat Espanyola de Diabetis al millor investigador jove (2008).<\/p>\n

Sergi Soriano \u00dabeda es va llicenciar en Biologia per la Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia. Va obtenir el seu doctorat a la Universitat d’Alacant (2006). Durant aquest per\u00edode va rebre una excel\u00b7lent formaci\u00f3 en l’electrofisiologia de l’Illot de Langerhans, descrivint els mecanismes que generen el patr\u00f3 oscil\u00b7latori en les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules beta pancre\u00e0tiques. Va realitzar una estada postdoctoral en l’Institut de Neuroci\u00e8ncies-CSIC de la Universitat Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez (2006-2008), on va estudiar els canals de calci dependents de voltatge i la seua implicaci\u00f3 en els processos de dolor i inflamaci\u00f3. <\/p>\n

\u00c9s professor titular de fisiologia en la Universitat d’Alacant i Director de secretariat suport a estudiants i empleabilitat. El seu inter\u00e8s cient\u00edfic se centra en la modulaci\u00f3 dels canals i\u00f2nics en c\u00e8l\u00b7lules excitables (c\u00e8l\u00b7lules alfa i beta pancre\u00e0tiques) per estr\u00f2gens i disruptors qu\u00edmics metab\u00f2lics i la seva implicaci\u00f3 en el desenvolupament de processos patol\u00f2gics com ara la diabetis, l’obesitat i la diabetis gestacional.<\/p>\n

Paloma Alonso-Magdalena studied Biology at the University of Oviedo. She obtained her PhD at the Miguel Hernandez University and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Nutrition at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm (Sweden) where she studied the physiology of the estrogen receptor ER\u03b2. She was also visiting researcher at the Centre for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling in Houston (USA). She is Lecturer of Nutrition and Bromatology at the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche and principal investigator in IDiBE. Her research is focused in understanding the role that the endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) play in the etiology of diabetes, obesity and related metabolic disorders. Her work has been decisive for linking the exposure to certain widespread endocrine disruptors like bisphenol-A to the etiopathology of type 2 diabetes. In addition, she is interested in the physiology and metabolic adaptations of pancreatic alpha and beta-cells during pregnancy. She is particularly focused in understanding the molecular basis of gestational diabetes mellitus and the identification of altered signaling pathways leading to the development of this disease. She was awarded with the Spanish Diabetes Society award for best young researcher (2018).<\/p>

Ivan Quesada Moll is Professor of Nutrition at the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche. He obtained his PhD at the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University (2000) and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle (2001-2003). Dr. Quesada was also invited as a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach at the University of Washington (2004). His studies have focused on understanding the alterations, adaptations and\/or failures of the pancreatic alpha and beta cells in physiological conditions such as pregnancy and ageing as well as pathological conditions like obesity and diabetes. His research in recent years has primarily contributed to a better comprehension of the pancreatic alpha-cell biology in health and disease, and its contribution to diabetes. He was awarded by the Spanish Diabetes Society for best young researcher (2008).<\/p>

Sergi Soriano \u00dabeda studied Biology at The University of Valencia. He obtained his PhD at the the University of Alicante (2006). During this period, he received excellent training in the electrophysiology in Islets of Langerhans understanding the mechanisms generating oscillatory pattern in pancreatic beta cells. He held a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Neuroscience- CSIC at the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University (2006-2008) where he studied the voltage dependent calcium channels and its implications for inflammatory processes.<\/p>

He is a lecturer of Physiology at the University of Alicante and Deputy Vice Chancellor for students. His main scientific interest is focused on the modulation of ion channels activity in excitable cells (pancreatic \u03b1- and \u03b2-cells) by estrogens and metabolism disrupting chemicals, and their involvement in pathological conditions including diabetes, obesity and gestational diabetes.<\/p>
